Subtraction means deducting two or ore quantities i.e. taking out some of the numbers from another number.
It is denoted by a "-" symbol.
The result of subtraction is called "difference".
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
1. If a & b are two whole numbers such that a>b or a=b , then (a-b )then the answer will always be positive.
Example: 5-1=4
2. if a<b then the answer will be negative.
Example: 1-5=-4
3. The commutative property is FALSE in the condition of Subtraction.
i.e. (a-b) is not equal to (b-a)
Example: a=25 b=4
(a-b) = 25-4=21
(b-a) = 4-25=-21
(a-b) =/= (b-a)
4. If any whole number other than zero is subtracted form 0, then
a-0=a
0-a is not defined.
5. The subtraction of whole numbers is not associative. That is, if a, b, c are three whole numbers, then in general a – (b – c) is not equal to (a – b) – c.
