Types of plants

Plants are classified into 4 major categories :

  1. Trees - Trees are large plants with a single strong woody stem. Their stem is covered by bark.e.g. Neem, Mango, Banyan, Deodar etc. There are few trees with a non-woody stem. Banana and papaya trees have a non-woody stem.
  2. Shrubs - Shrubs are bushy plants. Many strong stems grow near the ground. They are generally smaller than trees. e.g. rose, lemon etc.
  3. Climbers - Climbers or creepers are plants with a weak stem. They cannot stand straight and thus grow along with other plants, walls or on the ground. e.g. money plant, melons etc
  4. Herb - Herb are small plants and known for their aromatic and medicinal usages. e.g. spinach, coriander and mint etc.

Aquatic Plants :

Aquatic plants are the plants which grow in water. E.g. Water hyacinth, water lettuce, lotus and fanwort.

Thorny Plants :

Some plants have to live in deserts only which covers around 1/5 th of the earth's land. Deserts are the part of a wider classification of regions called "drylands". Plants living in a desert area has to live for long without receiving any fresh water. They may even have to live for more than a year without water. Some plants like Cactus have modified their leaves into the thorn or spins  in order to lessen the loss of water from the body due to transpiration. Their roots are deep rooted inside the ground that derives water from the underground sources effectively.  The thorns and spines help a plant to stat alive in such a harsh condition by preventing the water loss.

Weed plants :

Weed plants are undesired plants. They are unwanted plants in farm fields. They can grow and spread anywhere without any care. They cause harm to crops as they extract water and minerals from soil meant for crops. They can be removed manually or by using herbicides.

Uses of plants:

A. Plants are the only source of food on the planet on which all the living beings depend directly or indirectly.

B. We get food from plants from their different parts like leaves, stem, root, fruit, flower and seeds.

C. Plants  provide us with numerous medicines.

D. We get wood, teak, bamboo to make furniture,door,table,chairs etc.

E. Plants provide us with oxygen without which no living being will be capable to survive on its own.

F. We get jute and cotton from plants only.
