Length

Length is the measurement to determine how long or short a thing is. 

There are various types of equipment and units to measure length.

Non Standard unit: Non-standard units are the units which are not frequently used as they bound to change from time to time and from person to person. E.g. if we use a hand as a unit to measure the distance then it is bound to change from person to person as the length of a person's hand will be different from another person.

Standard unit: Units which are widely accepted because they remain same over time and from person to person. E.g. centimeter, meter, kilometer inches, foot etc

Things to remember:

  1. Small things are measured in millimeter and centimeters. E.g. length of a pencil will be in centimeters.
  2. Length of person is in feets and inches
  3. Length of cloth is in meters
  4. Length of road is in kilometers and miles
  5. When measuring a length start with zero on the scale
