Rounding off decimals

  1. Decide rounding off is required upto which place or position.
  2. Consider the number in the next position after the considered place.
  3. If the number is greater than or equal to 5 increase the value of the number at the place considered by 1.
  4. If the number is less than 5 then remove all numbers after the considered place.

E.g.

1. Round off 546.468 to 2 decimal places.

The number at the position after 2 decimal places is 8.

It is greater than 5 so increase 6 by 1.

Thus, 546.468 after rounding off to 2 decimal places becomes 546.47

2. Round off 345.774 to 2 decimal places.

The number at the position after 2 decimal places is 4.

It is smaller than 5 so remove all numbers after 2 decimal places.

Thus, 345.774, when rounded off to 2 decimal places, becomes 345.77
