Ingestion habits

Ruminant animals like buffaloes and cows chew their food, soften it by transferring it to the stomach and again chewing the softened food returned from the stomach. Softened food returned from the stomach is called cud.

Flesh-eating animals like lions, tigers, cats etc. have sharp, pointed and curved front teeth. These teeth help them in tearing the flesh of their prey.

Animals like snakes, frogs and pythons swallow their food.

Rabbits, rats, rodents and squirrels have large front teeth which they use to gnaw their food like seeds, fruits and nuts.

Hummingbirds and butterflies suck nectars from flowers. Mosquitoes and leeches suck blood. Cats and dogs lap milk with their tongue
