Propagation of light

Light propagates in a straight line. This property of light is called rectilinear propagation of light. The functioning of the pinhole camera can be explained on the basis of this property of light. An inverted image is formed by a pinhole camera due to the rectilinear propagation of light.

Advantage of Pinhole Camera

  • A pinhole camera does not need focusing like the lens camera.
  • Objects at any distance can produce a sharp image.
  • When the camera is brought nearer to an object, the image formed on the screen becomes larger in size.
